Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough physical examinations of animals to assess health status and identify medical issues.
- Diagnose illnesses and injuries using veterinary terminology, laboratory results, and clinical observations.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including medication administration, surgical procedures, and emergency interventions.
- Perform animal restraint techniques safely and effectively during examinations or procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Handle various species with expertise in animal handling, including dogs, cats, equines, and other small or exotic animals.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during surgeries and invasive procedures to prevent infections.
- Utilize veterinary equipment such as catheters, laboratory tools, and diagnostic imaging devices accurately.
- Provide pet grooming, animal husbandry advice, and post-treatment care instructions to pet owners.
- Monitor animal physiology and anatomy during procedures to ensure proper positioning and safety.
- Assist in laboratory work involving sample collection, testing, and analysis to support diagnosis.
- Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations and maintain detailed medical records for all patients.
- Collaborate with team members on complex cases involving veterinary critical care experience or specialized knowledge like equine experience.
Requirements
- A valid veterinary license or certification to practice in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Proven veterinary experience with a strong foundation in animal care practices across various species.
- Demonstrated expertise in animal restraint techniques and handling skills for dogs, cats, horses, or other animals as applicable.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and disease processes.
- Experience with aseptic techniques during surgical procedures or invasive diagnostics.
- Laboratory experience including sample collection, analysis, or diagnostic testing is preferred.
- Ability to perform pet grooming tasks and provide excellent pet care advice to clients.
- Strong communication skills for explaining diagnoses and treatments clearly to pet owners.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in emergency situations requiring veterinary critical care skills.
- Familiarity with animal catheterization procedures is desirable.
