Responsibilities
- Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals experiencing mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders
- Share personal recovery experiences to foster hope and motivation among clients
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies using motivational interviewing and harm reduction techniques
- Engage in crisis management and crisis intervention to de-escalate situations safely and effectively
- Collaborate with behavioral health professionals to coordinate care plans and ensure client needs are met
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information in accordance with privacy laws and organizational policies
- Support clients in navigating social services, community resources, and EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems for documentation and communication
Requirements
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist- Certificate Required
- Experience working with individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders
- Strong skills in crisis management, crisis intervention, and behavioral health support
- Knowledge of addiction counseling, harm reduction strategies, and motivational interviewing techniques
- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse communities and demonstrate cultural competence
- Excellent client communication skills with an empathetic approach to sharing personal recovery stories
- Familiarity with social work principles, mental health counseling practices, and EHR systems
- Commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and practicing ethical peer support advocacy
