Position Overview
The Band Saw Operator is responsible for cutting raw material to length per work instructions and cut lists to support downstream manufacturing operations. This is an entry-level position ideal for someone looking to build hands-on experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment. The operator plays a critical role in material flow, accuracy, and overall shop efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal and/or vertical band saws to cut raw material to specified lengths
- Read and follow cut lists, work instructions, and verbal direction
- Measure material accurately using tape measures and basic measuring tools
- Load, unload, and handle raw material and cut stock safely
- Verify cut lengths and identify obvious defects or issues
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform basic saw setup tasks such as blade changes and adjustments (training provided)
- Follow all shop safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Communicate material shortages, quality concerns, or equipment issues to supervision
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Willingness to learn and take direction in a manufacturing / shop environment
- Basic ability to read a tape measure and perform simple measurements
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and machinery
- Ability to follow work instructions, cut lists, and verbal directions
- Strong attention to detail and desire to do the job right the first time
- Understanding of basic shop safety practices or willingness to be trained
- Ability to stand for extended periods and safely handle raw material and cut parts
- Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently once trained and contribute to a team environment
- Must be a US citizen to apply.
