What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Mentor position at Minds Matter Chicago?
Each of our students is matched with two mentors who work closely with them to foster personal growth and guide them through both high school and the transition to college. Mentors develop strong, trusting, and empathetic relationships with their mentees, serving as positive role models and encouraging students to realize and pursue their full potential.
Mentorship plays a critical role in student success. By providing consistent support, mentors help students build confidence, develop key skills, and expand their sense of what is possible for their future. The mentor relationship empowers students to navigate challenges, set ambitious goals, and take meaningful steps toward achieving them.
In addition to directly supporting students, mentors become part of a broader community of professionals representing a wide range of industries. This network offers opportunities for collaboration, professional development, and mutual support. Mentors not only contribute to lasting change in the lives of students but also gain valuable connections and experiences that enhance their own professional and personal growth.
Mentors meet with their mentees during 2-hour Saturday afternoon sessions throughout the school year, from September through May. Additional time is required outside of session for communicating with mentees and their family, helping mentees complete required assignments, and occasional mentor meetings.
