We are seeking a motivated and responsible Activity Bus Driver/Substitute Bus Driver to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students and activity participants. Duties
- Safely operate activity or school buses according to all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
- Transport students, staff, and activity participants to various destinations, including schools, events, and recreational activities.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and provide wheelchair assistance as needed, ensuring comfort and safety.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure mechanical safety and cleanliness; report any issues promptly.
- Communicate clearly with passengers regarding routes, stops, safety instructions, and behavioral expectations.
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and incident reports; adhere to school policy knowledge and behavior management standards.
Skills
- Current valid CDL with bus and passenger endorsements preferred, but ability to obtain CDL and endorsements within a short amount of time will be considered for the right candidate.
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures for transportation incidents including CPR, first aid, and emergency stop procedures.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for vehicle maintenance or passenger assistance.
- Experience working with children or in childcare environments; familiarity with student discipline strategies is advantageous.
- Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance awareness.
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations while maintaining composure.
- Knowledge of child behavior management techniques; ability to foster a positive environment onboard.
