ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT II, RECREATION (Initial Application w/Testing)

Job Summary

Milwaukee Recreation is seeking an individual to assist with general accounting tasks for department operations. This includes payment processing of Recreation Department invoices. The ideal candidate possesses an exceptional attention to detail and the ability to thoroughly review vendor expenditures.

This position is a 12-month role and starts at $23.09 an hour (equivalent to $48,025.67 annually).

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human ;Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Responsibilities

• Assists in processing payment for approximately 90 cost claim reports monthly for Community Learning Centers (CLCs) and Partnership for the Arts and Humanities programs.
• Assists in processing payment for all Recreation contract and purchase order invoices.
• Creates record of the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) transactions for CLCs, Safe Place, and Child Care Camp programs.
• Receives Recreation Department class offering refund phone calls and processes requests for payment.
• Maintains administrative staff supply inventory and processes all department supply requests.
• Maintain credit card entries and reconcile monthly (Rec Facilities).
• Assists in maintaining Recreation Department Trust Account and budget balances monthly.
• Assists in department deposits at Central Services and the OASIS building.
• Assists in updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Recreation Department financial processes.
• Completes tasks in adherence to basic auditing standards.
• Assists with Milwaukee Recreation activities as needed.
• Serves on various community or Department committees as required and/or assigned.
• Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• An Associate's Degree in Accounting or Finance, or the equivalent. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Two (2) or more years of work with accounting practices and internal controls.
