Supervisor: Sr. Designer

Union Minimum Pay: $25.00/hr

Position Overview

The Milwaukee Art Museum seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented Production Designer to support the development and delivery of visually consistent, brand-aligned materials across digital and print platforms. Reporting to the Senior Designer, this role is essential to the daily operations of the Museum’s in-house Marketing and Communications team and ensures design excellence at every touchpoint—from gallery labels to social media graphics.

Ideal candidates will be technically proficient, flexible, and solutions-driven, with strong design fundamentals and a desire to contribute to a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support Design Execution: Assist the Senior Designer in creating and formatting print and digital materials for programs, events, exhibitions, campaigns, Director’s office requests and other Museum initiatives.
  • Prepare Exhibition Graphics: Format and prepare exhibition-related graphics, including labels, title walls, and signage, for production and installation.
  • Adapt Creative Assets: Modify and resize existing creative assets for various platforms, including web, social media, email, and print.
  • Versioning and Resizing: Assist with resizing, versioning, and updating ads, flyers, and other materials.
  • Uphold Brand Consistency: Apply brand templates, typography, and design standards across all deliverables to maintain a unified visual identity.
  • Coordinate with Production Partners: Liaise with printers, fabricators, and other production vendors to understand material options, gather estimates, deliver files, review proofs, and manage production logistics in alignment with project goals.
  • Support Project Management and Budgeting: Assist in tracking timelines, managing production schedules, and supporting budgeting efforts by obtaining quotes, monitoring costs, paying invoices, and ensuring projects stay within scope and financial parameters.
  • File Preparation: Prep final files for print and digital delivery, ensuring accuracy in layout, resolution, color, and file specs.
  • Asset Management: Organize and archive design files, templates, and project assets to support team efficiency.
  • Installation and Production Support: Provide on-site support as needed for installing signage or preparing collateral for events and exhibitions.
  • Stay Current: Keep up to date on production tools, design software updates, and best practices in file formatting and delivery.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 1-3 years of production or graphic design experience, preferably in a creative or nonprofit setting
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects
  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, color theory, and preparing files for both print and digital output
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and file organization
  • Ability to manage multiple projects on deadline in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated maturity and discretion, as this role will be involved in supporting Director’s Office requests involving Board-level initiatives, labor union–related matters, and crisis communications.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when working on sensitive projects or materials that may involve proprietary or pre-release information.
  • Familiarity with exhibition production or museum environments is a plus.
