Company Description The Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) CareerHub supports students and alumni with comprehensive career services and resources. It offers career coaching for individuals exploring academic pathways or seeking a change, as well as broader career exploration support. Employment Development Specialists collaborate with employers on talent needs, help students build career readiness, manage internship caseloads, and organize career fairs and events. The CareerHub also oversees student employment, evaluates prior learning for college credit, and provides specialized programs for non-traditional occupations, ESL/ELL students, and individuals with autism. This collaborative environment connects learners with real-world opportunities and support as they prepare for the workforce.

Role Description The Barber role at MATC CareerHub is a full-time, on-site position based in Milwaukee, WI. The Barber will provide professional hair cutting, styling, and grooming services to clients, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Daily tasks include consulting with clients to understand their preferences, recommending suitable styles and hair care solutions, and performing barbering services such as haircuts, trims, shaves, and beard maintenance. The Barber will maintain sanitary tools and workstations, follow health and safety regulations, and support client education on proper hair care. The role may also involve collaborating with CareerHub staff for demonstrations, workshops, or events that showcase barbering skills and promote career pathways in cosmetology and barbering.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in Barbering and Hair Cutting, with the ability to perform a range of classic and contemporary styles.
• Proficiency in Hair Styling and Hair Care, including product knowledge and techniques for diverse hair types and textures.
• Background in Cosmetology, with an understanding of industry standards, hygiene practices, and client service expectations.
• Valid barber or cosmetology license in the state of Wisconsin (or eligibility to obtain one in accordance with state regulations).
• Demonstrated commitment to client-centered service, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to maintain a clean, organized workspace and adhere to all safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Experience working with diverse populations and an interest in supporting students and community members in a learning-focused setting.
• Reliable attendance, professional demeanor, and willingness to collaborate with MATC staff and programs.
