Established in 2018, Mills River Dog Camp prides itself on being a unique, community-oriented small business that offers a safe and stress-free environment where canine campers can ditch the leash life and enjoy free play all day in our natural outdoor playgrounds or curl up for a comfortable snooze in one of our cozy, climate-controlled cabins. Mills River Dog Camp is a fulfilling and upbeat establishment where you will be valued as part of a team that thrives on open communication, creative problem-solving, and sustaining a positive, comfortable work environment. At MRDC, we aim to foster an intimate and stimulating environment for our canine campers. Therefore, we offer a low dog-to-staff ratio that allows our counselors to connect with canine campers on a personal level and engage in enrichment activities designed to provide interactive fun and companionship. In addition, we pride ourselves on maintaining a high standard of quality care for both our day campers and overnight lodgers; eagerness to go above and beyond in ensuring that our canine campers receive exemplary accommodations during their time with us is an absolute must.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Observe and monitor groups of dogs to ensure that camper safety is rigorously maintained at all times
  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect all dens, cabins, and play yards on a daily basis to ensure camper safety and hygiene
  • Perform general facility cleaning on a daily basis, including pet dishes and laundry
  • Be comfortable and confident handling dogs of all sizes, breeds, ages, and temperaments
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in various types of weather all year long
  • Be comfortable preparing meals, feeding and medicating dogs according to specific guidelines
  • Report any maintenance/behavioral issues to the team leader
  • Actively listen and communicate with fellow team members and clients
  • Willingness to communicate with clients about their pets and provide photos and videos of their stay

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift or carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to push or pull up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to reach overhead
  • Ability to control and withstand resistance from dogs of all sizes on leash
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to squat and kneel
  • Position Requirements: Experience working in animal care is preferred but not required. Must be able to work weekends . Must be willing to work some holidays (they’re so much fun at camp!) And above all, you must love dogs!
