Mills Marine and Ship Repair, LLC (Mills Marine) is currently seeking an individual to support Touch Labor at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY).

Clearance Requirement:

Must be a US citizen with a DOD final Secret security clearance.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Fabricates, Repairs, Assembles and Installs aboard ships and in facilities wall coverings such as Plastic Laminates, Plexiglas and polycarbonate materials.
  • Repair, fabricate, modify, remove and install plastic tiles such as sound dampening tiles, acoustic tiles (absorber and reflector), metal, composite, and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) restraining and constraining tiles, baffle panels, Gradual Transition Coating (GTC) tile, Dynamic Non-Linear Vibration Dissipator (DNVD) tile and hull insulation in tanks, voids, and internal areas.
  • Fabricate, remove, and install rubber-based tiles onboard submarines consisting of Special Hull Treatment (SHT) tiles, Mold-in-Place (MIP) tiles and Experimental Hull Treatment (XHT) tiles cut to precise and exact measurements.
  • Remove, install, manufacture, and modify various rubber items such as seals and gaskets.
  • Remove, install, and manufacture various deck coverings on ships and in building to include deck tile, underlayment, ceramic tile, carpet, stratica, Ionmat, vinyl flooring, terrazzo and cosmetic polymeric.
  • Repair, remove and install bonding agents related to plastic fabricator tasking.
  • Install and remove plastic, fabric or wooden containments/ barriers.
  • Repair, install, and manufacture various components using epoxies and glass-reinforced plastics (GRP) to fair in various components to meet specifications.
  • Fabricate, remove, and install new components out of acrylic and polycarbonate to include manufacture component molds.

Education:


The Woodcrafter / Plastic Fabricator position requires a minimum of a high school diploma and/or successful completion of a related trade or industrial school.

Experience:

The Woodcrafter / Plastic Fabricator position requires 4 years of verifiable experience as a supervisor in the Woodcrafter / Plastic Fabricator trade performing the Woodcrafter / Plastic Fabricator skills identified under the Woodcrafter / Plastic Fabricator Trade Skills section, which shall include a minimum of two (2) years' work experience on U.S. Navy ships/vessels.

Trade Training:

Completed a formal course of study in the assigned trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program.

Trade Skills:

  • Be able to apply sound decision-making of appropriate regulator/reference materials including blueprints, manuals, standard operating procedures and industrial process instructions and sets up, adjusts and operates a wide variety of machinery and tooling to aid in the fabrication of plastic and composite items.
