Forklift Driver
Mills Marine and Ship Repair, LLC (Mills Marine) is currently seeking an individual to support Touch Labor at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY).
Clearance Requirement:
Must be a US citizen with a DOD final Secret security clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Perform a full range of loading and unloading materials aboard naval ships, up and down ramps, maneuvering on piers, hanger bays and flight decks.
2. Provide cleanliness support pier side, shipboard and shipyard wide.
3. Operate shipboard, on various inclined surfaces within a highly congested area, and recognize working conditions.
4. Use job codes and part names to facilitate material kitting and inventory.
5. Perform a variety of manual tasks such as moving, arranging, and collecting components and mater.
6. Kit and manage all materials to be used by either project teams or shops.
7. Deliver kits from the material envelope to project teams and shops or point of use.
8. Manage and coordinate all materials stored in the material envelope, and all unused material returned to the material envelope, including excess material and kits.
9. Acts as the primary mover of all availability materials:
a. Positively receive materials into material envelope(s) from DLA Distribution (Code 550),
b. Kits and warehouses kit material in the material envelope,
c. Warehouses consumables,
d. Monitors and maintains stock levels at availability POU stations, and restocks from Material Envelope as needed,
e. Delivers kits from material envelope to production-designated locations,
f. Positively receives rip out material into material envelope(s),
g. Warehouses rip out materials for short-term storage in the material envelope(s) - Delivered rip out materials to deck plates, shops, or long-term storage locations - Support of periodic, spot, and special inventories.
Education:
The Forklift position requires a minimum of a high school diploma and/or successful completion of a related trade or industrial school.
Experience:
The Forklift position requires 4 years of verifiable experience as a supervisor in the assigned trade, which shall include a minimum of two (2) years’ general logistics experience or at least two (2) years' experience in a Supply Logistics Field.
Trade Training:
Completed a formal course of study in the assigned trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program.
Forklift training and certification required, as per NAVSUP P-538, Chapter 4.
Trade Skills:
1. Have the ability to load and unload materials skids and trucks; and safely operate up to 36k capacity forklift.
2. Shall be able to use materials that require initiation of safety precautions and have the personal protective equipment for said conditions/materials.
3. Have a working knowledge on how to read and understand the information provided in a Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
4. Have the knowledge of, and be able to comprehend, basic inventory principles and associated policies and procedures.
5. Shall understand the basic layout of the shipyard including locations of material envelopes, drydocks, and laydown areas.
6. Shall understand the basic layout of Navy surface ships and submarines, as well as basic Navy/Shipboard terminology, to facilitate delivery and communications with project teams.
7. Have the capability to lift and carry weights up to 45 pounds for up to 25 feet without assistance; and to kneel, crouch, stoop, and walk for long periods, as required.
8. Have knowledge of technical concepts and the ability to identify technical problems and provide solutions.
9. Have knowledge of NAVSUP, DLA and NAVSEA IT Systems and integrations.
10. Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
11. Have knowledge of basic inventory principles and associated JRC policies and procedures; and the familiarity with handling/identifying material handling rules for all material types, to include HAZMAT and nuclear material
12. Have the ability to operate a motor vehicle as required
