POSITION TITLE: AVID SECONDARY SITE COORDINATOR/ELECTIVE TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current AR teaching license
- Must be certified in Oral Communications or be willing to obtain certification during the 1st year of employment
- Bachelor’s degree in education preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience
- Experience in research-based instructional practices that will effectively and efficiently support learning
- Deep knowledge of reading, writing, literacy, and/or mathematics
- Uses data to inform instruction
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Assistant Superintendent for Student Services
JOB GOALS: To work collaboratively with the Principal, Site/Leadership Team and Staff in realizing School-Wide AVID as a means to strengthen core instruction in turn increasing access to and opportunities for college and career readiness for all students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach/implement AVID Curriculum and other courses as assigned with fidelity.
- Train, facilitate, and collaborate with tutors to effectively implement the tutorial process.
- Support student’s academic success across all content areas, specifically one ACP (Acceleration of Progression), AP course or concurrent course.
- Document that all AVID implementation elements are met in order to assure annual certification.
- Be the AVID liaison to the principal, counselor, and other staff members as well as with AVID District Director/Administrator.
- Co-Lead the building AVID site team in facilitating monthly meetings, focusing on instructional elements of AVID.
- Be an instructional leader, sharing techniques and materials through formal or informal professional development to help staff members across disciplines work with all learners.
- Assist teachers in implementing AVID strategies in their classrooms and as part of their instruction.
- Facilitate the planning and scheduling of field trips, guest speakers, and special programs.
- Co-Facilitate campus AVID parent involvement activities.
- Facilitate AVID data collection as it relates to school-wide implementation.
- Recruit and retain AVID learners.
- Organize and maintain AVID certification materials at the local school for compliance.
- Attend scheduled meetings with the AVID District Director/Administrator and Team.
- Attend AVID trainings as directed by the principal or AVID District Director/Administrator.
- Demonstrate BRC (Building Relational Capacity) competence in working with learners, staff, and families.
- Demonstrate understanding of the requisite levels of college and career readiness.
- Demonstrate organization and follow-through.
- Demonstrate the philosophy that all students can learn at rigorous levels.
- Demonstrate the ability to advocate for underachieving, underserved learners.
- Demonstrate the ability to motivate, support, and counsel learners and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate the ability to promote academic success for underachieving learners.
- Demonstrate understanding of how the school system works in order to get what is needed for the program and the learners.
- Demonstrate the ability to work well with and to train tutors, especially in the concept of tutorial groups.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule. (Placement depends upon education & experience.)
Length of Contract: 190 days per contract year
