Job Title: Veterinarian Research Associate
Location: Billerica, MA
Pay Rate: $30.00 - $32.00 hourly
This position is temporary with strong possibility of permanent placement
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Responsible for ensuring a high standard of animal care and welfare, to support research projects. Incumbent will have experience working in an AAALAC accredited animal facility and be able to provide quality technical support to the Research staff. The majority of time will be spent in the vivarium working with animals. Familiarity with good laboratory documentation, understanding of critical timelines, being organized and detail oriented is required. Specific tasks include:
Technical Support
- Provides support and/or technical assistance to veterinary and research staff with procedures, restraint, medication, dosing, specimen collection, urine collection, blood collection and euthanasia of animals as needed.
- Provides support for study takedowns, including but not limited to, organ collection, blood sampling, pipetting, etc.
- Provides recommendations for procedure modifications and development of research protocol methodologies.
- Provides input and verifies study/project information in a variety of research databases and spreadsheets.
- Independently conduct dosing and tissue sampling to support PK, PK/PD and efficacy experiments for projects in Oncology and Neuroscience & Immunology.
Training
- Responsible for training vivarium and research staff members on technical procedures, i.e. handling/restraint, dosing, blood collection, euthanasia, etc.
- Maintaining and updating documentation of training records
Administration
- Performing daily clinical rounds to triage and manage the treatment of new and pre-existing clinical cases.
- Providing backup support for the purchase of vivarium related materials, i.e. feed, bedding, PPE, general supplies, etc.
- Providing backup support for processing animal orders, updating delivery schedule and printing cage cards.
- Assists in recording, organizing and managing documentation associated with the vivarium in support of AAALAC accreditation.
