Airport Grounds Maintenance (PT/Seasonal)

Performs airport grounds maintenance functions at the Millington-Memphis Airport, including mowing, grounds keeping, and airfield air field.

Responsibilities

• Performs mowing, grounds keeping, weed eating, sweeping, and trash removal.
• Operates equipment used in airport maintenance such as a zero-turn mower, weedeater/trimmer and manual grounds keeping tools.
• Removes debris from grounds, assists in inspecting drainage ways for erosion and damage, and assists in maintaining fences.
• Assists, as needed, during special events, such as airshows and fly-in events.

• Ability to read, comprehend and apply information from operating manuals, airport policies and procedures and FAA regulations.
• Ability to comprehend terminology used within airport operations and to communicate effectively with supervisors and other staff members.
• Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
• Ability to work under a minimum degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention to detail.
• Ability to utilize grounds keeping equipment in a safe manner.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, and to perform manual labor related to repairs and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to safely operate equipment, including a zero-turn mower, weedeater, general grounds keeping equipment and a two-way radio.
• Subject to heavy lifting, as much as 50 lbs. and a distance of four feet from the ground.
• Subject to extensive standing, walking and stooping.
• Perform duties outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license, which must remain valid as a condition of continued employment.
• Must possess a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
• Minimum of six (6) months experience performing manual labor preferred, but not required.
• May be required to work weekends and holidays for weather/snow events, emergencies or special events (airshow).
• Must pass a background check, driver’s license check and a drug screen. 
• Will work in a non-smoking environment.
