Established in 1955, Miller Stephenson is a leading manufacturer and distributor of chemical products serving the aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing industries. We are seeking a hands-on Sales Manager who also maintains direct account ownership and personal sales responsibility. This is a —you will be responsible for both leading the sales team and owning customer relationships, with a strong focus on revenue growth, account development, and customer satisfaction.
The ideal candidate leads by example: engaging directly with customers, converting opportunities, and building long-term relationships while coordinating and mentoring the sales team. This role requires a balance of leadership, account management, and technical sales expertise, with a strong focus on customer service, account development, and digital lead conversion.
Candidates should be highly organized, respectfully persistent, and comfortable managing multiple priorities. A strong understanding of the digital sales cycle is important, as many leads originate online.
A chemical, mechanical, or engineering background is preferred but not required.
Starting salary: $100,000 to $120,000 per year
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage the sales team while maintaining personal responsibility for key customer accounts
- Act as a primary point of contact for strategic accounts, ensuring strong relationships and ongoing business growth
- Drive new business development through direct customer engagement, inbound lead follow-up, and market prospecting
- Balance sales leadership with individual quota contribution
- Coordinate and align the sales team to achieve company sales targets and initiatives
- Oversee day-to-day account activity, ensuring customer satisfaction and retention
- Develop and execute strategies for account growth, cross-selling, and new revenue streams
- Implement senior management’s initiatives
- Cultivate leads through digital channels, market insight, and proactive outreach
- Provide ongoing market intelligence, pipeline visibility, and sales forecasts
- Mentor and develop sales team members through coaching and hands-on support
- Collaborate with Marketing, Web, and Graphics teams on targeted campaigns and lead generation initiatives
- Partner with Technical, Customer Service, and Product Development teams to deliver optimal customer solutions
- Analyze customer applications and recommend appropriate chemical solutions (lubricants, solvents, coatings, etc.)
- Ensure timely, professional responses to all customer inquiries
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date activity within the company CRM system
- Participate in customer visits, on-site trials, and industry events (approximately 5-10% travel)
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Engineering, Mechanical, or Chemical background preferred
- 5 years of sales and/or account management experience (B2B preferred)
- Prior management experience of a small or large sales team
- Demonstrated ability to manage accounts while contributing to new business development
- Strong business acumen and understanding of sales processes and pipeline management
- Familiarity with digital marketing and online lead generation is a plus
- Experience in lubricants, specialty chemicals, coatings, or related industries is a plus
- Strong communication, negotiation, and listening skills
- Technical aptitude with attention to detail
- Self-motivated, team-oriented, and capable of working independently
- Willingness to travel (~10%)
