The Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle engineering and project management of custom pumping and fluid-handling systems at Miller Sales & Engineering. This role owns projects from initial concept and proposal support through detailed design, fabrication support, on-site startup, and commissioning. This position requires a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with at least 5 years of engineering experience, strong project execution skills, and the ability to work closely with sales, fabrication, and pump repair teams in a mining-focused, project-based environment. Project management and field execution are core responsibilities, not secondary duties.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Manage projects from concept through on-site startup and commissioning.
- Coordinate engineering schedules, deliverables, and technical scope.
- Serve as the technical lead between sales, fabrication, pump repair, vendors, and customers.
- Support procurement, fabrication sequencing, and repair integration.
- Participate in on-site startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer handoff.
- Identify and resolve technical, schedule, or scope issues throughout the project lifecycle.
Sales & Proposal Support
- Provide technical input for proposals, bids, and feasibility studies.
- Review specifications and recommend system configurations.
- Support pricing, scope definition, and risk identification.
Fabrication & Field Support
- Work directly with fabrication and pump repair teams to ensure designs are buildable and serviceable.
- Address shop questions, drawing clarifications, and field modifications.
- Incorporate field feedback into design improvements.
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain accurate project documentation and engineering records.
- Follow established engineering standards and procedures.
- Support continuous improvement and standardization efforts
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
- Experience managing engineering projects from concept through startup.
- Proficiency with parametric 3D design software.
- Strong understanding of pumps, fluid-handling systems, piping, and mechanical assemblies.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 5–10%) for site visits and startup support.
Preferred / Plus Experience
- Mining industry experience (strongly preferred)
- Experience with industrial pumps (slurry, centrifugal, vertical turbine, submersible).
- Project-based or engineered-to-order environments.
- Experience working directly with fabrication and repair teams.
- Autodesk Inventor (3D parametric modeling) experience.
