Pipe Fitter Job Description

Miller Refrigeration Co Inc is seeking experienced, highly motivated pipe fitter(s) to install high end ammonia refrigeration piping and components for our valued customers across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Candidates should be well rounded, work well in small teams, be focused and work safely. Our work is primarily in the food and beverage sector, hockey rinks and industrial process cooling. Our work is based out of our Gray Maine shop but travel Mon-Friday will be required when the work is located out of town. We provide company vehicles for all work operations and provide all necessary tools and equipment. Pipe fitting/welding ranges from ½” to 12” carbon and stainless-steel pipe, utilizing butt weld and socket weld fittings. Occasional structural layout/ fabrication is required for building skid frames, pipe supports/hangers etc.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, fabricate, assemble, and repair ammonia refrigeration piping systems
• Read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and isometric drawings
• Perform pipe fitting using carbon steel, stainless steel, and welded piping systems
• Cutting, grinding, sanding, fabricating
• Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and lifts
• Perform general industrial services
• Light duty rigging of pipe and components
• Operating forklifts, manlifts and telehandlers
• Follow OSHA, EPA, and IIAR safety standards and procedures
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed
• Assists with system pressure testing, leak detection, and system start-ups
• Support ammonia system maintenance, shutdowns, and emergency repairs
• Work collaboratively with refrigeration technicians, engineers, and facility staff

Required Qualifications:

• 2 years of experience in ammonia refrigeration or industrial pipe fitting
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics
• Ability to take field measurements for pipe fabrication/installation
• Strong understanding of pipe threading, grooving, and welding techniques
• Ability to work in cold environments, at heights, and outdoors
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
• Experience with stick welding (SMAW) or TIG welding (GTAW)

· Current AWS Welding Certs a plus

• Experience in food processing, cold storage, or industrial facilities
• Knowledge of NH₃ refrigeration systems and safety protocols

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Stand, kneel, climb, and work overhead for extended periods
• Wear required PPE, (Ear/Eye Protection, Hard Hat, Safety toe shoes, Fall protection etc.)

Work Environment:

• Industrial fab shop
• Industrial facilities, cold storage warehouses, and mechanical rooms
• Exposure to noise, cold temperatures, and industrial equipment
• Working indoors as well as outdoors

Schedule:

• 10 Hour Shift (Typically 6am-4pm)
• Monday-Thursday
• Frequent Overtime on Fridays when workload allows
• No Night Shifts
• Must be willing to travel/stay out of town M-F when required based on work location
• Traveling approximately 50% of the time. (Just depends on project locations)

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
