Legal Assistant – 7 years’ Litigation Experience

Required Experience
Successful candidates bring a minimum of 5 years of legal assistant, paralegal or legal secretary experience in a heavy litigation environment in both State and Federal court. Appellate experience is a strong plus. This position requires in-depth knowledge of civil litigation procedures and calendaring, strong writing and research skills, independent judgment, and comfortability with detail.
High level skills in Word, Acrobat, Outlook and Westlaw are expected. Experience with CLIO is very helpful.
Responsibilities
BUSINESS LITIGATION
· Proofread new Complaints and prepare Summons, Civil Case Cover Sheet, and Addendum for Efiling;
· Prepare service of new Complaints;
· Prepare Defaults and help draft other legal documents;
· Arrange to record Deeds and other documents; and
· Prepare Deposition Notices, arrange for Court Reporter and calendar dates and deadlines.
FEDERAL EFILING & APPEALS FILING
· Prepare Federal documents for Efiling in USDC Central and Southern Districts;
· Help others with Federal Efilings; and
· Help prepare and review Appeal filings and keep updated on appeal filings.
RENTAL INSURANCE FILES
· Review file from Rental Insurance upon arrival, calendar response due date, check court website for hearing; prepare captions, letterhead and POS for file;
· Review Meet and Confer letter and calendar last day to expect the Dismissal or take action;
· Monitor and ensure Response to Complaint is filed on time; obtain Demurrer date thru Court Reservation System (CRS), calendar Oppositions to Demurrer and Reply;
· Prepare Notices of Non-Opposition, Notices of Ruling and Continuances, and Answers;
· Help develop cases and coordinate with attorney to make sure discovery responses and Bates-labeled productions are served on time with verifications;
· · Obtain extensions to discovery and responsive pleadings; and
· · Making sure to input information into Clio.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
· Provide administrative support to attorneys;
· Research how to obtain Lien releases (from FAA), how to serve through The Hague, obtain information to have documents translated;
· Email relevant documents to clients and provide status of cases;
· Redact Documents for production, including preparation of flash drives and cover letters;
· Maintain organization of Federal filings and Court of Appeal filings;
· Calendar relevant events;
