Miller Johnson is seeking an accomplished Bankruptcy attorney with an established practice to join our Litigation Practice Group and growing Detroit team. What You'll Do
As a Member of our Litigation Practice Group, you will:
- Represent debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, lenders, trustees, and other stakeholders in bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring matters.
- Advise clients on complex business reorganizations, workouts, restructurings, and distressed situations.
- Lead matters involving Chapter 11 proceedings, bankruptcy litigation, and related adversary proceedings.
- Develop and implement creative strategies designed to preserve value, mitigate risk, and achieve clients' business objectives.
- Represent clients in negotiations involving workouts, forbearance agreements, and out-of-court restructurings.
- Draft and oversee pleadings, motions, briefs, and other advocacy materials, and appear before bankruptcy courts and other tribunals as appropriate.
- Counsel clients regarding creditors' rights, collection strategies, and remedies available under state and federal law.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across the Litigation Practice Group and other disciplines, including corporate, real estate, and labor and employment, to deliver practical, business focused solutions to clients.
- Mentor and support the professional development of junior attorneys while fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.
- Build and strengthen client relationships while identifying opportunities to expand existing engagements and cultivate new business.
- Help shape the strategic direction and continued growth of Miller Johnson's bankruptcy and creditors' rights practice.
What You Bring
The successful candidate will bring sound judgment, exceptional client service, and an entrepreneurial approach to practice growth.
Qualifications include:
- Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school.
- Admission to the Michigan State Bar or eligibility to waive into Michigan.
- Significant experience representing clients in bankruptcy, restructuring, insolvency, and creditors' rights matters.
- Demonstrated experience handling sophisticated commercial bankruptcy proceedings and related litigation.
- An established portable book of business that includes relationships with financial institutions, such as large banks, credit unions, SBA lenders, and the financing arms of large corporations, is highly desirable.
- Strong advocacy, negotiation, and business counseling skills.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated success managing complex matters and balancing competing priorities.
- Strong relationship building and business development skills.
- A collaborative approach and desire to contribute to firm leadership and growth.
