Primary Responsibilities and Key Deliverables
Assess work procedures and determine locations, relationships, or dimensions of parts.
Follow blueprints or other specifications to assemble boilers, tanks, and vats.
Examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, or vats to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots, or defective sections.
Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.
Install manholes, handholes, valves, gauges, and feedwater connections in drums of water tube boilers.
Test and inspect boiler systems for leaks or defects.
Follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
Utilize hand and power tools, plumb bobs, levels, wedges, and turnbuckles.
Required Skills and Competencies
Proficiency in welding, cutting, and brazing techniques. Ability to use hand and power tools effectively.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical instructions.
Excellent problem-solving skills to diagnose and repair boiler systems.
High level of attention to detail to ensure precision in assembly and repairs.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in confined spaces.
Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
Good verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and report issues.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required.
Flexibility to adapt to changing work environments and tasks.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a formal apprenticeship or relevant work experience as a boilermaker.
Work Environment
Tools, equipment, machinery used: Hydroblasting, Vacuum Truck, and Tank cleaning equipment.
Working conditions: Will be exposed to all weather conditions. Work on various structures and surfaces both at ground and elevated levels up to and possibly exceeding 150 ft. Work in confined spaces. Work a 12-hour shift with 30-minute lunch breaks. If requested, work overtime, and respond to emergency callouts whenever they occur. Work days, nights, and weekends. Travel to customer and other Miller sites as needed.
Physical effort required: Handling tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 150 lbs. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, crawl, bend, squat, and kneel. Must be capable of climbing towers/vessels/tanks.
