Physical Condition: As a Foreman, the job entails significant physical exertion. Anticipate long hours standing, lifting, and frequently bending and kneeling throughout the project.

Job Summary:

As a Foreman, you play a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of construction projects. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervising crew members, managing the project site, and ensuring the proper operation of machinery and heavy equipment, Effective coordination between crew members and tradesmen is essential to optimize time and abilities for efficient project completion. Your leadership extends to motivating crew members, resolving conflicts, and maintaining safety. You must be well-versed in construction codes and regulations specific to Michigan. Additionally, adhering to standard safety procedures ensures the well-being of the crew and the surrounding project areas. Communication is key: promptly report any issues or improper behavior to office personnel. Daily tasks may include the use of hand and/or power tools. Expect to work cautiously alongside live highway traffic and people, at elevated heights up to 50 feet, and carrying heavy materials up to 50 lbs throughout a variety of weather conditions such as rain, snow, sleet, fog, etc.

Job Responsibilities:

• Blueprint Interpretation: Proficient in mathematics and possessing an in-depth knowledge of construction blueprints. Skilled at reviewing plans and following technical drawings of bridges.
• Supervision and Training of Crew: Monitor labor force attendance and track labor and equipment hours. Allocate general and daily responsibilities to laborers based on project priorities and plans. Ensure optimal utilization of manpower and resources.
• Supervision of Equipment: Safeguard the proper and safe use of machinery and equipment.
• Supervision of Job Site: Ensure that the labor force sets up the work zone properly with all necessary traffic barricades efficiently and safely. Ensure compliance with safety precautions and quality standards.
• Coordination: Coordinate among tradesmen and laborers to maximize skills and time efficiency. Develop daily operation plans for the crew to optimize time usage. Monitor project expenditures to stay within budget.
• Communication: Regularly communicate with Superintendents and Project Managers regarding crew statuses and accomplishments.
• Leadership and Crew Culture: Foster positive interaction and attitudes among supervised crew members. Efficiently communicate with and encourage laborers throughout the project. Resolve conflicts as needed.
• Knowledge and Know-How: Understand Michigan construction laws, including safety protocols, proper equipment usage, MDOT standard specifications, MIOSHA standards, etc.
• Utilizing various hand and power tools: Operating a wide range of tools including hammers, saws, drills, and power tools like pneumatic nail guns, various welding tools, and/or concrete vibrators to perform construction tasks efficiently.
• Safety and Efficiency: Perform work effectively and safely near and around highway traffic, properly utilizing any safety equipment and/or gear per duties.
• Work conditions: Near and around live highway traffic and people, and occasionally working at elevated heights using ladders or mobile equipment while carrying materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Weather Conditions: Performing duties in outdoor environments regardless of weather conditions; snow, rain, sleet, fog, and various temperatures.

Qualifications:

Education:

• High school diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• While further education is not mandatory, any documentation highlighting certificates or trade-related schooling can strengthen your application and potentially lead to higher wage opportunities.

Experience:

• At least one to three years of industry experience, with an emphasis on roadways, highways, and bridges.
• Providing documentation that outlines your construction or other trade-related experience can improve your chances of receiving higher wage opportunities and strengthen your application.

The construction season is set to begin in March/April 2026

Prevailing Wage Range: $58.11-$64.11
