What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician/Laborer position at Miller Box Company LLC?
Overview
Miller Box Company is a third-party service provider that supports high-end moving companies by handling complex, fragile, and heavy personal items. We're the crew that shows up to take apart or reassemble complicated furniture, crate high value or breakable items, and make sure everything gets where it’s going in one piece.
We’re currently hiring for one full-time temp Laborer/Technician position , with the opportunity to stay on permanently. We are looking for a person who can think on their feet, lift heavy, and keep their cool under pressure. If you’re physically strong, mentally sharp, and not afraid to ask questions or learn new skills, we want to hear from you.
What You'll do: ride along in the box truck with our lead tech to jobs all over the Greenville area and assist with a large variety of moving-related tasks;
- Custom crating & packing: Safely prepare fragile or valuable items (art, TVs, glass, etc.) for transport.
- Disassembly & reassembly: Break down and put back together beds, sofas, gym equipment, and more.
- Light appliance setup: Tasks like reconnecting a fridge to an existing water line or securing a washer drum for transit — no plumbing or electrical work.
- Lift & carry: Heavy lifting, carrying items up and down stairs, squatting, stooping, bending, and working in tight spaces.
- Problem solve on the go: Think through challenges in the moment — like how to safely get a 400 lb item around a corner and down a staircase.
- Work directly in customer homes: Represent our company with professionalism and courtesy, even when customers are stressed or unpleasant, with the knowledge that if you can remain professional, we'll back you up 100%. The customer is NOT always right, but they CAN be rude.
- Assist in the preparation and cleanup of job sites..
- Operate basic hand and power tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and collaborate to complete tasks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations at all times.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to supervisors promptly.
Who you are:
- Strong & agile – We don’t care about appearances, but you need to be physically capable of tough, nonstop work, sometimes in awkward places or positions.
- Cool-headed & professional – Customers can be difficult; if you can be respectful and professional anyway, we’ll always have your back.
- Willing to learn – Experience is great, but not required. We train on the job and prioritize attitude and humility over résumé.
- Tool savvy (preferred) – If you know the difference between a Phillips and a Torx bit, you’re ahead of the curve.
- Mentally sharp – Jobs involve planning and improvisation. If you’ve worked trades or labor jobs with a thinking component, that’s a big plus. Otherwise, be ready and able to think on your feet.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a job requiring manual labor and critical thinking a plus but not necessary
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to and over 200 pounds, continually throughout the day.
- Valid driver's license required (Real ID preferred, but again, not required)
- Must have reliable transportation to get to start location. We just moved, so are currently operating out of our garage in Simpsonville, but eventually we will move into a larger warehouse/shop environment.
- No background check required for temp position
- Background check required only if you’re offered the permanent full-time role
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn new skills and take on various responsibilities as needed.
- Must be reliable, punctual, and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
Perks & Benefits:
- Guaranteed minimum pay, even if you finish early. This is to incentivise efficiency, not rush jobs.
- Performance bonuses – For hard jobs, long days, and for outstanding work.
- Profit Sharing - if we have a stellar month, we'll share some of the love!
- Paid on-the-job training – No classroom stuff, just real learning while working.
- Opportunity to go permanent – If its a good fit for everyone, we'll bring you on ful time
What We're Not Looking For:
- Know-it-alls. We don’t expect you to know everything — in fact, we prefer you ask questions if you’re unsure. If you’re not willing to learn, take direction, or admit when you need help, this won’t be a good fit.
- Too proud to ask. If you try to wing it instead of checking in when something’s unclear, it can lead to costly mistakes. We’d much rather walk you through it than have to fix it, or pay for it, later.
- Hotheads. Moving day is stressful — for customers and crews. You’ll need to keep your cool and handle tense situations professionally. If a customer or mover is being unreasonable, we'll handle it - we've got your back. But if you handle frustration by getting snippy with the customers, or by throwing/damaging our equipment, don't apply.
- Clock Punchers. We’re not expecting lifelong devotion, but we do want team members who take pride in a job well done, care about making sure a customer's possessions arrive unharmed, and are present when they show up. Leave your phone in the truck please.
Thank you, looking forward to hearing back!
