Overview
The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely and congenially operating the school bus on a regular daily schedule.
Route drivers for MCA typically work from 6am-8am and 3pm-5pm with many opportunities to drive field trips during the school day throughout the year. Our routes do not go from house to house; Our routes go to and from centralized parking locations in either Pilot Mountain, Pinnacle, King, or Rural Hall depending on your assigned route.
The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently operating the school bus according to a set daily schedule. The School Bus Driver is responsible for the general wellbeing of the riders. The Driver picks up and drops off students as per the schedule, maintains order and security on the bus and obeys all laws and regulations. The Driver cares for and addresses the students, as well as their parents, in a manner consistent with the philosophy of Millennium Charter Academy. The School Bus Driver reports any concerns to the headmaster or his delegate. Furthermore, this individual understands and supports the classical tradition as expressed by the philosophy, mission, vision, and goals upon which the Academy is founded and is committed to the pursuit of knowable, objective truth, goodness, and beauty.
Qualifications
1.Is at least 21 years of age.
2.Maintains a valid North Carolina class B or better commercial drivers license with a P endorsement and an S endoresement with valid pocket card.
3.Exhibits exemplary ethics and high moral character.
4.Has proficient knowledge in the following areas: highway and school bus regulation, how to deal with children, how to deal with children with special needs, scheduling, record keeping, equipment cleaning standards and procedures.
5.Demonstrates the following skills: ability to operate school bus in a safe and responsible manner, service to others, public interaction skills, team building, analytical and problem solving skills, decision making skills, effective verbal and listening communications skills, stress management skills, time management skills.
6.Exhibits exemplary ethics and high moral character.
Duties and Responsibilities
1.Operates the school bus in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage, or loss of life.
2.Performs daily safety and maintenance checks, ensuring that the bus is in good operating condition at all times.
3.Develops good relationships with students and staff
4.Cleans the interior of the bus daily.
5.Ensures the bus is safely and securely stored.
6.Advises the Transportation Director of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
7.Maintains schedules.
8.Ensures riders are aware of the school’s Expectations and Habits, as well as special bus protocols.
9.Maintains order and discipline on the school bus.
7.Reports serious or repetitive behavioral issues to the headmaster or his delegate.
8.Submits to criminal records checks as required by the school.
10.Performs other related duties.
