JOB TITLE: Financial Controller
Department: Finance
Classification: Exempt
Reports To: CFO
SUMMARY: The Financial Controller prepares timely and accurate financial statements. Analyzes and forecasts using thorough knowledge of business operations to drive recommendations for continuous improvement. Monitors and controls banking processes, audits, and tax matters. Oversees accounting, reporting, and accounts payable/receivable functions. Responsible for detailed financial control in the company’s day to day finance operations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares timely and accurate financial statements and other regular financial reports.
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
- Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits, providing information to external auditors.
- Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
- Achieves budget objectives by monitoring expenditures; analyzing variances; proposing corrective actions.
- Managing all accounting activities relating to general ledger (G/L), accounts receivable (A/R), and accounts payable (A/P). Ensure accounting transactions are recorded and posted in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ensure these functional areas are executing on processes and controls put in place.
- Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results.
- Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
- Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential. Works with CFO to continually adapt financial processes that ensure control over company assets and reporting.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to multi-task and perform diversified business tasks.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products with emphasis in Excel and Word applications. Must be able to create and format Excel spreadsheets for financial analysis.
- Proficient knowledge of SAGE100.
- Knowledge of GAAP and ability to apply to internal financial functions.
- Solid analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral).
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and professional approach to work.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Must have Accounting Experience (4-6 years minimum) preferably as a Controller.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license/certification preferred but not required
- Ability to work independently and function as a finance/accounting expert for the company.
- Prior supervisory experience of financial staff.
- SAGE100 experience is highly preferred.
