The Senior Fiscal Officer is responsible for the accounting functions of the assigned departments and countywide financial reporting and record-keeping, in addition to assisting the CFO with monitoring compliance with financial policies and regulations.

This position may have some flexibility with the workday start and end times. Complete 2026 pay scale for this position is $36.18-$47.33. The starting hiring range is $36.18-$38.21 per hour.

This job description indicates the normal type and level of work expected of the incumbent. Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as apparent or assigned.

  • Performs advanced accounting functions including reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, balancing, and financial reporting for assigned departments, providing oversight for accounts payable and inventory, in accordance with county and state rules, statutes, and professional standards. Coordinates the bank reconciliation process; assists with county payroll functions and related financial reporting, serving as back-up for payroll processing.
  • Oversee the daily balancing of county funds, including, but not limited to, balancing county receipts to reports, posting daily cash receipts, creating daily bank deposits, monitoring bank balances, and maintaining a variety of financial worksheets.
  • Oversees accounts payable functions for the county including, but not limited to, reviewing invoices/claims to be paid for accuracy and adherence to policy and procedures; entering claims into the financial system; processing payments, issuing checks as approved by the County Board, District Court Judges, or by county policy, and preparing warrant reports for submission to the board.
  • Oversee the maintenance and processing of 1099’s; provides for the timely filing of other local, state, and federal financial and grant reports as required.
  • Assists with the annual audit process, including review and development of related financial statements, publication, state reporting and related aspects of the audit and indirect cost plan development.
  • Ensures accounting processes meet standard audit requirements are in conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), county policy, state statutes, and federal law. Assists with the implementation of auditor recommendations and countywide financial policies.Monitors compliance with policies, reports any issues, and makes recommendations on the same.
  • Maintains compliance and oversight for fund balances, grants, and special fund tracking. Prepares special analysis, forecasts, and reports for the CFO and County Administrator to inform financial decision-making.
  • Oversees the county-wide fixed assets inventory control system. Assists with the development and implementation of related policies, procedures, and record-keeping.
  • Projects future revenues and expenditures based on historical data, state projections, and trends; analyzes, identifies, and implements solutions to resolve accounting problems. Provides informed input into the department budget; monitors spending and cash flow; prepares monthly and year-to-date revenue and expenditure reports to management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business and four years of experience in general accounting and/or payroll; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal history background check.
  • A valid Class D driver’s license is required
