The primary work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8 - 4:30 pm.
Essential Functions
This job description indicates the normal type and level of work expected of the incumbent. Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment; maintains up-to-date maintenance logs on equipment; maintains equipment and appliances in proper working order through routine inspection, service, and repair such as boilers, emergency generators, fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, water pumps, circulating fans, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, climate control equipment such as heating and air conditioning units, ventilation systems, and other job-related equipment.
- Performs general building and facility maintenance services related to carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall, furniture, fixtures, and door hardware. Responds to calls for the emergency repair and restoration of county facilities.
- Under the oversight of the Facility & Fleet Operations Manager, provides for the safe operation of boilers in accordance with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry regulations, and the safe generation of power by diesel and propane generators.
- Provides for, or performs, minor maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles. Coordinates, at the direction of the Facility & Fleet Operations Manager, major repairs and regular service.
- Assists with providing oversight and assistance for contractors and vendors performing work on county facilities.
- Responsible for snow and ice removal from sidewalks, lawn care, landscaping, and associated grounds maintenance, including the supervision of Sentence to Serve (STS) inmates assisting with those duties, as applicable.
- Performs custodial work as needed.
- Responsible for monitoring and organizing supplies inventory and assisting Facility & Fleet Operations Manager with ordering supplies, as necessary.
- Transports household hazardous waste, scrap metal, and other disposable material for disposal or recycling.
- Communicates courteously and professionally; maintains working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other county staff, vendors, and members of the public. Responds to questions or complaints from the public, and either resolves or refers resolution to Facility & Fleet Operations Manager.
- Serves on-call on a rotation schedule; may be called at home and required to report immediately to assist with emergency equipment failures or facility matters.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of post-secondary education with preferred course work in carpentry, exterior/interior finishes, basic wiring, concrete flatwork, construction materials, tools, equipment and machines, computer and keyboarding, basic plumbing, heating and air conditioning, machine technology, and mechanics and three years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must successfully complete a criminal history background check prior to hire and ongoing every 3 years in accordance with BCA requirements and BCA Level 1 Training/Certification.
- Must have the ability to obtain a 2nd Class C Boiler’s License from the State of Minnesota, Department of Labor and Industry, Division of Boiler Inspection, within 18 months of hire.
- Class D Driver’s License.
Selection Process
Candidates will be selected based on a review of training and experience. Top candidates will be invited to participate in a written exam. Top written exam candidates will be selected to participate in oral interviews.
