Duties
- Review construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to accurately interpret project requirements and material needs.
- Develop detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services using estimating software such as HeavyBid or similar tools.
- Utilize Bluebeam and other construction management software to analyze plans, generate takeoffs, and prepare bid proposals.
- Manage project budgets by estimating costs, controlling expenses, and ensuring adherence to financial targets throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing while fostering strong professional relationships.
- Prepare comprehensive spreadsheets for cost analysis, material requirements, and project scheduling to facilitate clear communication with clients and internal teams.
- Review contracts, change orders, and scope modifications to update estimates accordingly and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Collaborate with project managers on site visits to gather real-time insights that influence accurate estimation and cost control strategies.
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction estimating for commercial projects within the construction industry.
- Strong proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid, Xactimate, or equivalent platforms; experience with Bluebeam is highly desirable.
- Excellent blueprint reading skills with the ability to interpret technical drawings and construction plans accurately.
- Solid understanding of construction management software, spreadsheets, Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel), and cost management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective negotiation skills paired with excellent client communication abilities to foster positive relationships.
- Knowledge of material cost estimating, pricing strategies, and estimating material requirements from blueprints.
- Construction site experience combined with a background in managing projects as a construction estimator is preferred.
- Familiarity with contracts, project management principles, and construction site safety standards is advantageous.
