1.0 FTE Jr./Sr. High School Severe Special Needs Teacher (Grades 11 - Post-Graduate)
DESCRIPTION:
As a Transitional Program Teacher for the SHINE Program at Millbury Junior-Senior High School, you will play a pivotal role in supporting students with severe special needs in their transition to post-secondary life. Holding a Massachusetts Severe Special Education license is essential for this role. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement a tailored curriculum aimed at preparing students for post-secondary success, focusing on industries aligned with their interests and abilities. Additionally, the Transitional Program Teacher will serve as a liaison between the school and local partners to facilitate job placements while in school, as well as ensure smooth transitions into meaningful employment opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of:
MA DESE license in the areas of Teacher of Severe Needs (All Levels);
or
Possess a Transition Specialist Endorsement
Experience in planning, directing, and assisting group and individual instructional activities that are engaging and multi-sensory
Experience in a co-taught classroom setting preferred
Strong Curriculum Design and Development skills with the ability to accommodate diverse learning styles
Strong communication skills and a background in working with parents/guardians as partners in the educational process
Driving the school-issued van to and from locations within the surrounding areas
CPR and First Aid certified, preferred
GENERAL DUTIES:
Planning and implementing direct instruction to students during non-community days
Maintain consistent and regular community outings in alignment with the programmatic needs
Create and implement curriculum for post-graduate students that is aligned with academic goals, transferable skills, and specific interests of students within the program
Serve as a liaison between existing community partners, as well as fostering new relationships with potential job sites
Communicate directly and work collaboratively with community partners/businesses in the community to facilitate programmatic opportunities for students to receive job and skills training locally
Develop and foster relationships with new community partners to best serve our Post-Graduate students' needs, skill development, and interests.
When applicable, function as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide Core Academic Support and direct instruction to special education students in grades 7-12 who are taking the MCAS as part of their individualized graduation track.
Analyze individual student data and use that information to develop measurable goals and objectives and corresponding lessons
Apply appropriate knowledge to curriculum content/instruction, plan lessons and align assessment of student learning, monitor students' understanding of the curriculum, and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments, using data-driven techniques as appropriate
Participate in related school meetings, which are held for the purpose of improving both curricula and extracurricular activities
Collaborate with the Special Education Department Head/Team Chair to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) addressing students’ needs and function as a liaison/ case manager for designated students.
Communicate directly and work collaboratively with community partners/businesses in the community to facilitate programmatic opportunities for students to receive job and skills training locally
Perform other professional duties which the Building Principal or Director of Special Education may require

SALARY: In accordance with the teachers’ contract
WORK YEAR: School Year as approved by the Millbury School Committee and Millbury Teachers’ Association
