The Chemical Applicator and Mechanic role in Fertile, MN is a hands-on role responsible for the accurate application of crop protection products and fertilizers, as well as the maintenance, repair, and calibration of farm and application equipment. Your work will help ensure optimal plant health, top-quality seed production, and efficient, safe operations throughout the season. The ideal candidate is an experienced farm operator with a valid private applicator’s license, experience in crop production, equipment operation, and basic agronomic knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations: Operate, maintain, and repair application equipment, tractors, and other farm machinery.
- Chemical Application: Accurately mix and apply crop protection chemicals and fertilizers according to label requirements and production schedules.
- Operate and assist in the maintenance of tractors, planters, sprayers, and other farm machinery to ensure efficient crop production.
- Calibrate sprayers, spreaders, and seed equipment for precision and efficiency.
- Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical issues to minimize downtime. Collaborate with production managers to determine application timing and equipment needs.
- Data & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of applications, repairs, and equipment inspections.
- Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Ensure all farming activities meet industry regulations and safety standards.
- Assist with other seed production activities, including planting, scouting, and harvest operations.
Special Requirements
- Valid Private Applicator’s License or willingness to obtain license
- Valid driver’s license. CDL is preferred but not required.
- Hands-on farming experience, preferably in seed production or row crops.
- Proven experience in both equipment operation and mechanical repair.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of hydraulics, engines, and electrical systems.
- Ability to work long hours in the field, including peak seasons.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
