What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lumber Loader and Packager position at MILLARD LUMBER?
Position Summary
Packages and loads a wide variety of products and materials with industrial trucks or tractors around warehouse, storage yard or production areas.
Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reads work orders and/or receives oral instructions to determine work assignment or material and equipment needed.
- Utilizes a motorized forklift and other industrial trucks to position lifting devices to move, load or unload packages or products to designated areas. Manually transports building products to ensure timely and complete delivery.
- Utilizes a hand scanner and loads packages onto delivery vehicles according to delivery schedule and weight specifications. Counts finished products to determine if product orders are complete.
- Ties product in bundles for further processing or shipment, following prescribed procedures. Installs protective devices, bracing or strapping to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
- Maintains storage areas and performs routine maintenance on power Industrial trucks such as cleaning, recharging batteries, fueling etc.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous experience with dock/warehouse environment with building materials loading and unloading.
- Previous experience with operating powered industrial trucks. (Forklift, pallet jacks etc.) and hand held scanners preferred but will train.
Other Requirements
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and physical
- Work morning/evening hours during the week, required weekends and overtime
- Maintenance of regular attendance

- Excellent Verbal & Written Communication
- Basic math and measuring skills.
- Ability to concentrate and handle volume of details amidst busy work environment
- Ability to work as an individual and as a team to meet productions goals.
- Knowledge of company products sufficient to look up/reference parts, products or components
- Willing to obtain other training if deemed necessary in performance of responsibilities and continuing education.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work is in a warehouse environment setting, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.
- Employee must have clear, close vision for reading and computer/scan work. Must be able to safely squat/bend/climb. Will occasionally lift/carry up to 80 lbs. Push/pull up to 70 lbs., grasp, and talk, hear and stand/walk for prolonged periods. Job may require reaching at or above shoulder/overhead level and below waist.
