Millar Cameron is working with Seed Global Health to recruit a Chief Finance Officer. Seed is a non-profit organization that focuses on strengthening the education, practice, and policy of the local professional health workforce in Africa. Its mission is to educate a rising generation of health professionals to strengthen access to quality care to save lives and improve health. Seed is dedicated to creating lasting change in the health systems of their partner countries: Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Zambia. Seed is unique in its approach by focusing on educating and training doctors, nurses, and midwives who offer support across the health system from frontline health workers’ referrals for definitive care to resilience and responsiveness to diverse health challenges to training future generations.
Role Overview
Seed Global Health is at a pivotal point in its growth. As the organisation expands its multi-country footprint and delivers on our 2030 strategy, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play a defining role in shaping the organization’s financial future. This is not a traditional finance role. Reporting to the COO and serving as a key member of the six-person Executive Team, the CFO will design Seed’s financial architecture, digital backbone, and risk framework. The CFO will embed finance into programmatic decision-making, engage with boards and donors as a trusted steward, and empower in-country teams to deliver results.
With operations across five countries: US, Zambia, Malawi, Uganda and Sierra Leone, the CFO will drive three critical priorities in the next 12–18 months:
- Leading a digital transformation of finance and business systems.
- Designing Seed’s first multi-year, scenario-based financial plan.
- Operationalizing enterprise risk management to support scale and resilience.

Key Responsibilities:
The Chief Finance Officer, based in one of their offices, will have responsibilities including:
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a trusted partner to the CEO, COO, and Board on enterprise strategy, growth, and risk.
- Lead multi-year financial modelling and scenario planning, translating them into resource allocation, investment, and program financing decisions.
- Partner with the Director of People & Culture to guide organizational design, workforce planning, and sustainability.
- Represent Seed with donors, partners, and at Board/committee meetings as a voice of financial stewardship.
Finance & Risk
- Oversee global budgeting, forecasting, financial performance, and statutory compliance.
- Strengthen global treasury operations: cash flow, FX management, banking relationships, and short-term investments.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements and oversee grants accounting and reporting.
- Implement and oversee a robust risk management and internal control framework.
Information Systems & Transformation
- Drive a multi-year digital transformation of finance, grants, and ERP systems.
- Oversee the integration of finance with HR/payroll, procurement, and program systems to enable scale and transparency.
- Champion real-time reporting, data governance, cybersecurity, and smart BI dashboards.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve efficiency, transparency, and impact.
Leadership & Team Development
- Build and mentor a diverse, high-performing finance function across Seed’s global footprint.
- Strengthen in-country capacity and embed finance as a lever for organizational transformation.
- Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and empowerment.
Experience, Skills, and Competencies
Essential
- 12 years of progressive finance leadership in complex, multi-country NGOs or international organizations.
- Proven expertise in financial strategy, scenario planning, treasury, risk management, and donor compliance.
- Strong systems experience: ERP, HRIS, CRM, and data visualization tools.
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP and international accounting standards.
- Track record of leading change and building diverse, cross-cultural teams.
- CPA or equivalent; MBA/Master’s in Finance preferred.
Nice to Have
- Experience in global health, health financing, or human resources for health.
- Familiarity with bilateral/multilateral donors and philanthropic foundations.
- Track record of operational innovation to drive efficiency and excellence.
- Experience integrating finance, HR, and MEL systems for strategic performance tracking.
- Commitment to equity, decolonization, and supporting country-led governance.
Location: Flexible, with preference for one of Seed’s offices (Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Sierra Leone, or the U.S.)
