MRUUSD Transportation Coordinator and Maintenance Assistant
Position Title: Transportation Coordinator and Maintenance Assistant
Pay is commensurate with experience.
Position Overview:
This position involves two major functions:
Organize and manage the district’s transportation system, including but not limited to, scheduling, problem-solving, communication, and personnel management.
Provide administrative assistance and support to the Director of Operations, Buildings & Grounds.
Supervision:
This position reports directly to the Director of Operations, Buildings & Grounds.
Location/work requirements:
Office located at Mill River Union High School, with office hours to be determined in coordination with the supervisor as part of the hiring process. Work is five days a week, 8 hours a day, 7am-3pm.
This position is a non-bargaining position and not affiliated with any professional association. Non-union staff follow the support staff master agreement for wellness benefits (see 17.1) and severance pay (see 16.1-16.3). Non-union support staff also follow the teacher master agreement for student loan repayment (see 16.6). Non-union support staff receive 16 paid leave days per year, and follow the support staff agreement in the use of those days (see 10.1-10.3). Non-union support staff receive vacation days based on years of service (0-5 years, 11 days; 6-10 years, 16 days; 11-16 years, 21 days). Five vacation days per year can be carried over into the following year. Any unused vacation days will be lost at the end of the contract year. All other benefits are outlined in individual employee contracts.
Duties and Functions:
Provide support for the coordination and supervision of custodial experiences; building mechanical and structural repairs and construction projects; and preventive maintenance programs at multiple facilities.
Provide support for the oversight of all maintenance and repair activities and contract work.
Provide support for the development of short and long range building maintenance, modification, repair and preventative maintenance plans.
Provide support for the oversight of building operations systems at all district sites.
Provide support for the administration of the development of specifications and the selection of various maintenance service contracts.
Provide support for camera systems, building access systems, and phone systems.
Manage building access requests.
Directly lead the district transportation system as Transportation Coordinator to ensure the safe, efficient, and responsible process of transporting students to and from school activities. Design routines, stops and schedules, communicate with stakeholders, ensure function of the fleet of buses and other transportation vehicles, and support and supervise transportation drivers.
Transportation Coordinator Functions:
Maintain, assess and update all transportation routes/schedules/stops as necessary throughout the academic and calendar year, including those for general education, special education and all other educational needs.
Schedule drivers, assign drivers/routes and arrange for substitute coverage as necessary to accommodate any driver shortages.
Maintain and update Transfinder database on a continuing basis to develop new routes for each academic year, and update regular routes as needed during the academic year. Review and coordinate new route details and updates to routes, schedules and details with the Supervisor.
Regularly update routes and schedules for all school websites.
Schedule extracurricular busing for all District schools: field trips, sports trips, etc.
Schedule daily trips for special education busing.
Supervise all Transportation Department based bus and transportation drivers. For non-Transportation based drivers and/or aides, coordinate with other Supervisors within the district when necessary to draw from other departments for transportation assistance. This is to be continuously coordinated whether that assistance represents regular routes, supplemental route drivers, substitute drivers and/or bus aides.
Hire new bus drivers as needed.
Maintain and update Transfinder database on a continuing basis.
Collect, review, approve and submit driver wage authorization forms.
Communicate with drivers, building administrators, teachers, staff, parents, school board and committees as necessary.
Provide morning monitoring of bus and building radio system(s) and direct problem solving and troubleshooting of needs as they arise. Be available to direct and resolve on-road issues.
Be available to receive early morning calls associated with school associated with school cancellation and/or road conditions and notify drivers appropriately as conditions warrant.
Approve all extracurricular trips.
Schedule buses for district local summer programs.
Schedule random drug testing for all drivers.
Ensure all buses and all other transportation vehicles are properly maintained and inspected as required. Advice Supervisor of mechanical issues and repairs. Arrange for maintenance, including coordination of the dropoff and the pickup of transportation vehicles for approved maintenance.
Solicit bids for purchase of new buses and sell used buses on a yearly basis.
Order transportation diesel fuel and other transportation consumable supplies as required for proper operation of the transportation vehicle fleet.
Submit district billing reports on a quarterly basis.
Attain certification in “reasonable suspicion training” for bus driver drug and alcohol use.
Periodically ride bus routes.
Other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Skills/Qualifications:
A Commercial Driver’s License with a school bus endorsement (or willingness to obtain one) is preferred.
Familiarity with Transfinder is preferred.
Possess a willingness to learn new software programs.
Must be an excellent communicator, with excellent organizational skills.
Experience with various spreadsheets and document programs.
Multitasking capability, with the ability to bring tasks to final completion in a timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision.
Supervisory experience preferred.
