What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Paraeducator/Teaching Assistant position at Mill River Unified Union School District?
POSITION TITLE: Paraeducator, 1.0 FTE START DATE: On or about August 17th, 2026 Hours: Monday-Friday 9:45am-5:15pm LOCATION: Wallingford Elementary School SUPERVISED BY: Building Principal BASIC FUNCTION: To provide developmental, academic, and behavioral support services to preschool students WORKS WITH: Students, Teachers, Administration QUALIFICATIONS: A teacher assistant is at least 18 years of age, is a high school graduate or has completed a GED, and meets one of the following qualifications: At least a Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level 1 or 2 Certificate; OR At least a current Child Development Associate and at least 12 months experience working with groups of children from grade 3 or younger; OR At least successful completion of the Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals course or the Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate and at least 12 months experience working with groups of children from grade 3 or younger; OR At least successful completion of a 3 college credit course in child or human development or a 3 credit college course for school age care and education and at least 12 months experience working with groups of children from grade 3 or younger. A successful candidate will be one who has the following attributes: 1. Ability to interact effectively, including all written, non-verbal and verbal interactions, with students and co-workers. 2.
Ability to take direction and feedback when provided, and to work independently when needed. 3. Ability to implement a variety of developmental, academic, and behavioral supports under the supervision/direction of licensed personnel and administration. 4.
Meet professional development and other regulatory needs for working within a certified prekindergarten program as well as maintain professional development hours and attend and contribute to district and school based meetings. 5. Have the interest and ability to engage in outdoor, hands-on and sustainability-based learning with students6. Ability to help manage a safe, happy and nurturing classroom independently and collaboratively 7.
Ability to help supervise instruction and activities as well as assist in all daily preparation work and clean up of rooms 8. Ability to move around, work with students on the ground and at small desks, and assist students. 9. Commitment to maintaining a positive working relationship with teachers, parents and other staff members 10.
Commitment to establishing a nurturing relationship with the children in addition to serving as a positive role model
