- Mill & Motion, inc. is a custom job shop located in Independence, OH, serving a wide variety of local industrial sectors. We specialize in high-mix, low-volume, precision machining of large castings, forgings, and weldments.
- We are seeking an experienced Manual Horizontal Boring Mill Machinist to join our team. In this role, you will independently interpret blueprints, design custom setup methods, and manually operate heavy-duty boring mill to machine complex, one-off parts to strict tolerances.
- Machine Operation: Set up, adjust, and operate manual horizontal boring mill to perform drilling, boring, milling, tapping, and facing operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience setting up and operating manual Horizontal Boring Mills in a job shop environment.
- Tolerance: Demonstrated ability to consistently hold tolerances of ± $0.001" or better.
- Math & Geometry: Strong shop math skills, including trigonometry, to calculate dimensions and angles.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks typical of a heavy manufacturing environment.

- Setup & Fixturing: Design and build custom setups using angle plates, v-blocks, and clamps where unique fixturing does not exist.
- Layout: Perform accurate layouts and establish centerlines, reference points, and machining guidelines on raw materials before cutting.
- Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) specifications.
- Tooling Selection: Choose appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds to optimize material removal and surface finish across various metals.
- Quality Control: Inspect parts during and after the machining process using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges.
- Material Handling: Safely load and maneuver large, heavy workpieces using overhead cranes and rigging equipment.
- Maintenance: Perform daily routine maintenance on the machine and maintain a clean, organized work area.
