What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farmer position at Mill Creek Urban Farm?
Major Responsibilities:
1. Maintain infrastructure and support creation of new infrastructure projects.
2. Maintain and care for perennial beds, fruit trees, educational gardens
3. Assist with all aspects of food production and distribution.
a. Operate and coordinate farmstand and farmers markets, including harvest, set up/clean up, sales, record keeping and outreach.
b. Distribute and record weekly produce harvests, donations and larger monthly donations to designated locations.
c. Record all market donation data in the Monthly Farm Report to Board.
d. Manage wholesale orders and deliveries with local stores, restaurants and community partner organizations
4. Greet all visitors at the farm; provide basic information about the farm and direct visitors to self- guided tours.
5. Assist the Board in the creation of the farm budget.
6. Coordinate with lead farmer and education outreach staff members
Qualifications
- Familiar with organic/natural agriculture and sustainable farm practices
- Strong gardening skills and familiarity with gardening tools
- Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather, under strenuous conditions
- Ability to perform physical labor; must be able to lift up to 50lbs
- Motivated and punctual, able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends
- Valid driver license and good driving record

- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to use light power equipment and hand tools
- An awareness and passion for health, nutrition and food justice issues
- Detail-oriented, with considerable attention to order and cleanliness throughout the farm
- Ability to take initiative and work cooperatively on a team of peers
