Lactation Consultant

We are seeking a compassionate, client-centered Lactation Consultant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is committed to providing individualized care that honors each family's goals, values, and circumstances. This role requires a clinician who can combine strong lactation expertise with empathy, curiosity, and a holistic perspective to help families feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based lactation and infant feeding consultations to prenatal and postpartum families.
• Assess infant feeding challenges and develop individualized care plans that align with each family's goals.
• Support all feeding journeys, including breastfeeding, pumping, bottle-feeding, combination feeding, and formula feeding.
• Deliver holistic care by considering the physical, emotional, mental, social, and practical factors that influence feeding outcomes.
• Educate families on infant feeding, milk production, pumping, bottle feeding, return-to-work transitions, infant development, and responsive feeding practices.
• Identify barriers to feeding success and provide realistic, family-centered solutions.
• Document consultations accurately and maintain client records in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
• Collaborate with physicians, pediatricians, midwives, doulas, therapists, mental health professionals, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care.
• Provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and inclusive support to families from diverse backgrounds and family structures.
• Conduct virtual and in-office consultations as assigned.
• Participate in team meetings, case reviews, continuing education, and professional development opportunities.
• Stay current on emerging research and best practices in lactation, infant feeding, and maternal-child health.
• Foster a welcoming, affirming, and judgment-free environment for all clients.

Required Qualifications

• Current IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) credential.
• Strong knowledge of lactation management, infant feeding, and maternal-child health.
• Current CPR-BLS
• Excellent communication, counseling, and client education skills.
• Ability to build trust and rapport with families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• Commitment to providing inclusive, nonjudgmental, and family-centered care.
• Demonstrated ability to approach client care from a holistic perspective.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency with electronic documentation systems and telehealth platforms.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in private practice, outpatient, hospital, or community-based lactation settings.
• Training or experience in trauma-informed care, cultural humility, maternal mental health, infant oral function, or related specialties.
• Experience supporting adoptive families, surrogate families, LGBTQIA families, and families navigating complex feeding challenges.
• Additional certifications or advanced training related to infant feeding, maternal wellness, or family support.
• Completion of Master Class, Bottle Refusal, and Low Supply training programs within one year of employment.
