Terminal Manager

Entrusted with overall responsibility for day to day management of terminal operations. Directly supervises all terminal management staff. Administers contracts with owner operators, third-party carriers and other venders. Coordinates delivery of transportation services to customers and maintains professional working relationship with customer representatives. Assists in the development and administration of the terminal operations budget and oversees capital investments in terminal facilities and equipment. Enforces Company policies and procedures. Counsels and administers discipline to employees with the concurrence of the Human Resources Department. Oversees the recruitment, orientation, and training of employees and owner operators. Investigates and adjusts concerns and complaints brought by employees, owner operators, customers or suppliers. Coordinates the flow of information between the terminal and various corporate departments. Responsible for compliance with all federal, state and local regulations impacting terminal operations.

• Monitor and maintain adequate staffing levels to assure that qualified employees are recruited trained and utilized in the timely delivery of contracted transportation services to the customer.
• Recruit qualified owner operators and enforce the various contractual provisions, quality standards, and safety requirements under which owner operators provide transportation services.
• Foster an atmosphere in which terminal staff and owner operators work as a team to timely and efficiently provide service to the customer.
• Attend daily and weekly meetings with customer representatives to discuss load flow, solutions to problems, and planning for seasonal or product changes.
• Monitor the dependability, cost and quality of service of third party carriers utilized to augment the Company fleet.
• Work in tandem with the Safety Department to monitor and address safety problems, guarantee regulatory compliance, and assure that all required training is administered to terminal staff and owner operators.
• Assure that all employee personnel and benefit information is timely recorded and accurately transmitted to the Human Resource Department.
• Assure that all required corporate and/or customer reports are timely and accurately submitted.
• Oversee the protection and maintenance of all property and equipment assigned to the terminal.
• Enforce rules of conduct, safety and attendance for all terminal staff and administer discipline up to and including termination with the advice and concurrence of the Human Recourses Department.
• Evaluate and determine within corporate guidelines requests for vacation and various leaves of absence sought by terminal staff.
• Conduct employee performance evaluations and recommend promotions and salary increases as deemed appropriate.
• Train and mentor subordinates to enhance their promotional opportunities and assure qualified candidates for staff and management openings.
• Adhere to and enforce all ethical standards by which the Company operates.
• Such other functions as may be assigned.

Bachelors degree preferred. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Must have 5 or more years of trucking or related transportation logistics management experience.

• Experience in the management of dedicated fleet operations utilizing owner operators.
• Knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations.
• Supervisory experience dealing with employees possessing varied skill sets.
• Customer service experience preferably dealing with the time sensitive delivery of services.
• Experience using computerized accounting, billing, inventory, HR, and regulatory compliance software.
• Excellent organization skills, with the ability to multitask.
• Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Valid drivers license and personal vehicle suitable for business usage.

Sedentary office environment. Exerts up to 25 lbs. of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in an office, but may be required to spend a portion of the time in a warehouse, or outdoor trailer yard. Must possess ability to work nights and weekend where operations require.
