The Estimator generates estimates and new business opportunities within assigned markets
Essential Functions
- Generates and develops quotes
- Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare quotes/estimates
- Computes various cost factors
- Prepares budgets and schedules for work
- Ensures all estimates meet or exceed company and customer’s expectations, as well as regulatory requirements
- Develops beneficial business relationships
- Develops good working relationships with vendors, subcontractors, clients and INDOT personnel
- Develops a network and contacts within the community
- Performs day-to-day estimating tasks
- Sets up jobs in job costing
- Generates purchase orders and subcontractor agreements
- Reviews billings, prepares change orders and job cost reports
- Communicates with internal/external customers
- Answers inquiries via phone, email or in-person
- Provides highest levels of customer service
- Makes presentations to large and small groups
- Translates technical information into easily understood language
- Promotes and maintains safe work environment
- Exhibits safe work behaviors
- Wears all prescribed PPE
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company’s core values, competencies, and skills.
- Required Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction management or related field
- Required 3 years in Heavy Highway/Civil/Asphalt Paving/Bridge construction or related field preferred

- Clerical office environment
- Indoor lab conditions that include standard office equipment such as computers, photocopier, phone, filing cabinets, fax machines, cubicles
- Sits at a desk regularly
- Looks at a computer screen 8 hours a day
- Performs data entry, alpha and 10-key numeric, on a keyboard
- Uses copy/fax to scan documents
- Drives a motor vehicle
- May lift or move up to 10lbs
- Regular travel to job sites, customer sites, and corporate offices around the state is required; mostly day trips, but some overnight travel may be required
