Long-Term Substitute Theater & Public Speaking Teacher - Miles River Middle School

Miles River Middle School | Grades 6–8 Anticipated Dates: November 16, 2026 – March 1, 2027 Miles River Middle School is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered Theater and Public Speaking Teacher to serve as a long-term substitute during a leave of absence, with an anticipated assignment from November 16, 2026 through March 1, 2027. We are seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic about working with middle school students, flexible, collaborative, and comfortable working as part of a team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of theater, dramatic arts, and public speaking as they apply to students in grades 6–8 and will be able to create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment. The successful candidate will be able to communicate skills and concepts effectively and provide students with opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, communication skills, and self-expression. Theater instruction may include acting, improvisation, character development, movement, voice, ensemble work, script analysis, playwriting, and performance. Public speaking instruction may include speech preparation and organization, effective verbal and nonverbal communication, presentation skills, audience awareness, and strategies for developing confidence when speaking in front of others. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to student-centered instruction and an ability to support students with a range of learning needs, interests, and levels of experience.
