Position Title: Director, Business Development
Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Salary: $80,000.18-$85,000.24

Location: Primarily based out of our Denver office at 711 Park Ave W, Denver, CO 80205. 3 days/week in office, 2 days/week remote

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary for this position is $80,000.18-$85,000.24 In an effort to increase equity and to avoid unfair bias historically associated with salary negotiations, we do not participate in salary negotiations outside of this stated starting salary range.
How You'll Help
The Director of Business Development is responsible for the vision, implementation, and execution of Mile High United Way's new business and corporate partnership acquisition strategy-both from a fundraising and an engagement perspective.
- Fundraising: Reporting directly to the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, this role will serve as a partner to senior leadership in this work, and will be responsible for the identification and pursuit of new corporate funders and foundations, workplace giving campaigns, and sponsorships. This role will manage a current 1.1M portfolio and will have a significant focus on growth within the portfolio as well as new partners. The Director of Business Development will also be responsible for developing strong sales tools and products, and work with development operations to track metrics to ensure targets are being met across the department.
- Engagement: This role will also develop the strategy and implementation of our Corporate Partnership Connects series, and expand our CSR services and engagement within the Denver Metro Area
Essential Responsibilities
- Fundraising:
- Responsible for developing and prospecting potential new clients and converting these relationships into increased engagement and revenue for Mile High United Way.
- Maintains a portfolio of corporations who have growth potential in one or more functional areas within resource development.
- Implement short and long-range plans as it relates to new investor opportunities for Mile High United Way focusing on corporate relationships.
- Work in collaboration with our Executive team and Board of Directors to secure new business, signature event sponsorships, and program support
- Work with cross-functional team to develop proposals that create a compelling case for support to potential investors in Mile High United Way
- Engagement:
- In collaboration with the volunteer team, develop and manage employee engagement activities such as lunch and learns, kit builds, United Way Wednesdays, day of service, United Way tours and other funded activities
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to fulfill all event and program sponsorship benefits
- Partner with the Community Giving and Engagement team to successfully execute employee giving strategies.
- Partner with leadership within the organization to manage customer (donor) relationships, including incorporating engagement in affinity groups and volunteer opportunities.
- Attend industry functions and provide feedback and information on market trends as well as strategies for Mile High United Way to engage with new or growing industries.
- Support planning efforts for consultative products, including Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) business functions.

- Maintains security and confidentiality of all division documents and files.
- Maintains a positive image of Mile High United Way
- Is professionally supportive of all MHUW policies, procedures, functions, departments, divisions, managers and employees
- Provides leadership and collaboration with other department and corporate priorities, as needed, e.g. strategic plan, annual budget, special initiatives, etc.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other departments
What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in business, humanities marketing, finance, or equivalent experience
- 7-10 years successful experience in sales, fundraising, sponsorship sales, and one-on-one solicitation. Proven solicitation experience of gifts $50,000 and higher and experience closing multi-year gifts preferred
- Demonstrated background in commercial sales or nonprofit development with a track record of directly contributing to financial growth and retention
- Demonstrated leadership in leading and developing a sales team to build new business opportunities
- Strong background and experience in new business development including donor/company prospecting, donor/company acquisition and sales
- Experience working with and ability to influence executives and key decision makers
- Ideally, the candidate brings a robust network within the Denver region within the business and philanthropic community
- Additional successful experience in funds development including, proposal writing, prospect research, volunteer management, annual individual giving campaigns, capital campaigns, and donor cultivation and recognition
- Direct employee management experience, specifically with sales and/or fundraising personnel
- Experience within a nonprofit or impact organization is preferred.

- Must be able to identify and access long range giving potential
- Demonstrated skills in the areas of administration, project management, and volunteer program development
- Prefer knowledge of community volunteer base
- Knowledge of community's network of affluent families and private foundations
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Must work well under pressure, be flexible, creative, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable of the community and possess a high energy level
Computer Skills:
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Salesforce experience preferred
Working Environment: General office environment, with out of office meetings.
Physical Activities: Must be able to provide personal transportation.
