What are the responsibilities and job description for the Camp Nurse position at Mile High Pines Camp?
We are a mission-driven outdoor education camp located in the beautiful mountains of Southern California. Our program serves 5th and 6th grade students, providing immersive science-based outdoor learning experiences. We are seeking a compassionate, reliable Camp Nurse or Health Supervisor to oversee the health and wellness of our campers and staff.
This is an ideal position for someone who loves working with children, enjoys the outdoors, and has strong medical training — including Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN/LPN), EMTs, Paramedics, Wilderness First Responders, or individuals with comparable clinical experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide basic medical care, first aid, and triage for campers and staff.
- Administer and document medications according to camp and state regulations.
- Maintain organized medical records, incident logs, and health forms.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding illnesses, injuries, or concerns.
- Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate with EMS if needed.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure the camp infirmary is clean and stocked.
- Review health histories and identify special health needs among campers.
Additional Expectations:
- Comfortable living/working in an outdoor, rustic environment
- Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Experience with children or youth programs preferred
- Must pass background check and/or Live Scan (as required for working with minors)
Applicants must have one of the following or equivalent training/experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) — highly preferred
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN)
- EMT or Paramedic Certification
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness EMT
- Retired medical professionals with current or recently expired credentials welcome to apply
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification (required)
