Position Summary: As a Buyer 1 at Ice-O-Matic, you will support the procurement process to ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials and supplies for manufacturing operations. This role works closely with internal teams and suppliers to execute purchasing activities, maintain inventory levels, and support overall production efficiency. This role offers the opportunity for growth and development into a Buyer position through hands-on experience, mentorship and increased responsibility over time.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement Support:
    • Execute the procurement of materials, components, and services in alignment with production schedules and business requirements.  
    • Support RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes, including gathering data and coordinating with suppliers.
    • Create and maintain purchase orders for production, new product development, and services.  
    • Monitor order status and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
    • Support production needs by managing active purchase orders that you placed in accordance with JIT delivery, which includes expediting, pulling orders in, pushing orders out, and canceling orders when necessary. Assist in identifying and escalating root cause issues impacting supply or delivery.   
  • Supplier Coordination:
    • Support day-to-day supplier communication to ensure timely delivery and issue resolution.
    • Assist with price comparisons, quote collection, and basic negotiations under guidance.   
  • Inventory Support:
    • Monitor inventory levels and usage to help prevent shortages or excess stock.
    • Support inventory management processes using ERP/MRP systems and tools such as VMI and Kanban.   
  • Cost and Data Support:  
    • Assist in tracking pricing and identifying cost-saving opportunities.  
    • Maintain accurate purchasing data to support reporting and decision-making.
  • Quality Support:
    • Coordinate with quality and suppliers to ensure that purchased materials meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Compliance:
    • Follow company policies, procedures, procurement and supply chain management guidelines.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Provide occasional backup support for internal material movement, including operating equipment to assist with trailer movement and yard coordination when primary coverage is unavailable.
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Buyer or in a similar procurement role within a high-volume, repetitive manufacturing environment.
  • ERP/MRP Systems: Proficiency in utilizing ERP/MRP systems for inventory management and procurement processes. Experience with Microsoft D365 is a plus.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exposure to lean manufacturing techniques preferred.
  • Follows established procedures and exercises sound judgement within defined guidelines.
  • Adapts to changing priorities and manages multiple tasks effectively.  
  • Communicates clearly and professionally across e-mail and in-person interactions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Leverages data to inform and drive decision-making.

The annual base salary for this position is $50,000.00 - $65,000.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to the base salary this position is eligible for an annual profit-sharing bonus.
