Position: School Bus Driver
Location: Milan Area Schools Transportation
Starting Date: As soon as possible
Reports To: Transportation Director and Superintendent
Required Qualifications:
1. Required High school diploma or equivalent, CPR/AED, first aid training and other training as required.
2. Preferred Commercial Driver’s License appropriate for pupil transportation is necessary, however the district is willing to train.
3. Must pass a criminal record check and drug and alcohol test.
4. Excellent diving record.
5. Ability to meet Department of Transportation physical examination requirements.
6. Preferred prior experience with children.
7. Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), and provide documentation to supervisor before expiring date of said document(s).
8. Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
9. Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
10. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance and the physical ability to do the job.
11. Must be able to deal with stressful conditions in a professional manner that shall not bring discredit upon Milan Area Schools.
Essential Functions:
1. To obey all laws governing the operation of a vehicle and/or a school bus.
2. Operate a bus in various traffic, weather and road conditions with the safety of students as the priority.
3. Maintain the bus in a clean and orderly condition, sweet and empty trash.
4. Refuel the bus when necessary.
5. Must follow District cell phone policy.
6. To keep all student, parent, and staff information confidential.
7. To have a positive attitude in working with students, parents, community members and other staff members.
8. To prepare “Accident Reports” after any accident involving the bus and/or school bus passengers.
9. Performs pre-trip daily inspection as directed by checklist for compliance with State and
District Regulations.
10. Drives bus to pick up children following an established route in the safest, most efficient
manner possible. Unloads children at school in the morning and picks up and delivers children
to their home stop in the afternoon. This position may have a midday route transporting
students to: other school locations, sport trips/fields or home.
11. Operates CB radio to be in contact with other drives/base dispatch or mechanic.
12. Monitors student conduct and enforces regulations.
13. Reports any issues, mechanical problems or otherwise to the appropriate supervisor.
14. Acquaints themselves with other rules and regulations regarding their responsibilities as
provided by the District, Local and State regulations.
15. Keeps accurate records and reports as required, submits reports in a legible manner, and
turns information in at the specified time (i.e. route sheets that are kept updated with stops
and times, required payroll information, etc.).
16. May need to strategically move or park a bus with warning markers and flares in case of
breakdown.
17. Perform other job duties as assigned.
Salary/Hours: As outlined in the Transportation Contract.
Assessment: The Transportation Director/ Superintendent will assess the effectiveness of the School Bus
Driver annually with respect to the performance of the essential functions.
