Heavy Equipment Technician

Position Overview

Milam Equipment Rentals is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team and help strengthen and grow our branch operations. This position is primarily focused on maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment to keep our rental fleet safe, reliable, and ready for customers.

We are looking for someone with strong mechanical skills who is also flexible and willing to assist with other branch responsibilities as needed. This may include preparing and cleaning rental equipment, maintaining the yard, assisting with equipment pickups and returns, and helping with general branch operations.

As the branch continues to grow and operations become more established, the position will increasingly focus on mechanical work. This is a good opportunity for an experienced mechanic who takes pride in their work and wants to play an important role in improving the business.

Key Responsibilities

Heavy Equipment Maintenance and Repair

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heavy equipment, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and routine service to keep rental equipment in safe, dependable working condition.
• Identify mechanical problems and recommend appropriate repairs.
• Work on equipment such as excavators, skid steers, backhoes, loaders, and other machinery.
• Use diagnostic tools, service manuals, and technical resources to complete repairs efficiently.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, parts, and service work.
• Assist with field service or equipment troubleshooting when needed.

Equipment Preparation and Branch Support

• Inspect, steam-clean, and prepare rental equipment for customer pickup or delivery.
• Clean equipment cabs and ensure machines are presentable and ready to rent.
• Assist with staging equipment and organizing the rental yard.
• Help with mowing, groundskeeping, and general property maintenance.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop and work area.
• Assist with equipment pickups, returns, and basic front-desk or customer support when needed.
• Help with other duties that support daily branch operations.

Qualifications

• Professional experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or diesel mechanic is required.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
• Experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, preferably including excavators, skid steers, backhoes, loaders, and other machinery.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
• Ability to diagnose problems, work independently, and complete repairs with limited supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe, quality workmanship.
• Willingness to assist with equipment cleaning, yard maintenance, and other general branch responsibilities when needed.
• Valid driver's license and a dependable work history.
• Ability to work outdoors and perform the physical tasks required for equipment maintenance and branch operations.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
