Position Summary
The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and assisting in the daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient service and high food quality standards. This role supports line cooks and chefs by completing food preparation tasks according to company recipes and food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash, cut, peel, and portion vegetables, meats, and other ingredients
- Prepare sauces, stocks, marinades, and basic recipes
- Label and store food properly (FIFO method)
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of prep areas
- Follow food safety standards in compliance with California Health Department regulations
- Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages
- Operate kitchen equipment safely (slicers, mixers, knives, etc.)
- Support line cooks during peak hours when needed
- Dispose of waste properly and maintain organized workstations
Qualifications
- Previous kitchen or prep experience preferred (not always required)
- Knowledge of basic knife skills
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately
Physical Requirements (Important in CA job postings)
- Ability to stand for long periods (6–8 hours)
- Lift up to 40–50 lbs
- Work in hot, cold, and wet conditions
- Repetitive hand and wrist motions

Pay: $18.60 - $28.00 per hour
