What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic (Service Truck) position at Mies Construction?
Job Expectations:
This position is primarily responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of the company's fleet of construction equipment. Must have the ability to diagnose and repair defects in equipment including but not limited to: excavators, loaders, scrapers, tractors, motor graders, bulldozers, off-road haul trucks, farm tractors, trucks and small equipment such as water pumps, generators, and saws. They also need to be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Demonstrating continuous effort to decrease repair cost and turnaround times, to increase equipment production and company profit. They observe and/or monitor equipment and components to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards. The heavy equipment mechanic must also have skills in the use and care of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance, and repair work. To include incidental welding operations on equipment. The mechanics responsibilities include completing forms to record or report information in a standardized format.
Job Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time
- Must be capable of lifting arms above shoulders level to remove, repair, and install components, as well as bend or stoop repeatedly
- Must be able to move heavy objects fifty pounds or more
- Must be able to read and understand repair manuals and schematics
- Should have working knowledge of the following:
- Diesel Engines
- Hydraulics
- Transmission, differentials, and final drives
- Electrical/Electronic systems
- Pneumatics
- Metal fabrication, cutting, welding, and brazing
- Maintain a valid class A drivers license
- Pass a pre-employment, and random drug screenings
