Sous Chef | Midwood Smokehouse

Midwood Smokehouse is currently looking to hire a Sous Chef that can help us continue to grow our exciting and fast-paced brand. We strive to deliver operational excellence while creating a culture where guests and crew alike, rave about the service and food that we provide. As a Sous Chef, you will help manage the back of the house. From training to food prep to the perfect execution of our recipes.

At Midwood Smokehouse, we believe in doing barbecue right-no pellets, no gas, no power outlets - just pure hardwood and hard work. we love all styles of barbecue, and our menu reflects it. From North Carolina hog to Texas beef, we've got everything covered. Our newest obsession is Tex-Mex barbecue, so being willing to learn new methods and flavors is a must.

 Responsibilities:

As a Sous Chef at Midwood Smokehouse in the vibrant Charlotte market, you will play a crucial role in the culinary success of our restaurant. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Culinary Leadership: Collaborate with the Head Chef and culinary team to execute the menu with precision and creativity. Ensure consistency in flavor, presentation, and quality of dishes.
  • Kitchen Operations: Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, including food preparation, cooking, and cleanliness. Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety.
  • Menu Execution: Contribute to menu execution and staying true to the authentic barbecue traditions that define Midwood Smokehouse.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with kitchen staff to train, motivate, and mentor the team. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Quality Control: Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation to meet the restaurant's standards. Implement and maintain high culinary standards.

We Are Looking for a Sous Chef Who:

  • Has a High School Diploma (Four Year Degree or Culinary Degree preferred)
  • Has at least 2-3 years working as a full-time Chef (preferred candidate has heavy BBQ experience)
  • Has experience in quality food production, presentation, service and sanitation
  • Has advanced understanding of professional cooking, knife handling skills and a voracious appetite for knowledge
  • Can speak clearly and listen attentively to staff, peers, supervisors, and guests
  • Must respect the process, the meat, and cooking in general
  • Can lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to lead, train, and motivate the kitchen staff
