What are the responsibilities and job description for the System Engineer position at Midwestern?
We’re looking for someone who can turn Microsoft 365 into the operating system for how our business runs.
This is not a traditional IT support or systems administration role. Instead, you’ll focus on designing and building workflows, intranet experiences, and process-driven solutions that help teams operate more efficiently.
You’ll work closely with leadership to understand how work happens today, identify gaps, and build solutions inside Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams, Planner, Project, Power Platform) to improve execution, visibility, and collaboration.
Why This Role
This is an opportunity to take ownership of how a company operates day-to-day, not just maintaining systems, but actively shaping how work gets done. If you enjoy building, improving, and connecting systems to drive real impact, this role offers a high level of visibility and influence.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build SharePoint intranet sites, hub structures, and knowledge management systems
- Create and implement SOP frameworks, documentation systems, and process workflows
- Develop and optimize project and task management workflows using Microsoft Planner, Project, and Teams
- Build Power Apps and Power Automate solutions to streamline manual processes and improve efficiency
- Connect tools across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem to create seamless, integrated workflows
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to translate needs into practical, scalable solutions
- Drive adoption and usability, ensuring tools are intuitive and actually used by the team
- Continuously improve systems and workflows based on feedback and evolving business needs
- Support the evolution of the environment with AI/Copilot-enabled productivity enhancements
What We’re Looking For
- Hands-on experience building solutions within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (SharePoint, Teams, Planner, Project, OneDrive)
- Proven ability to design and implement intranets, SOP systems, or workflow-driven platforms
- Experience with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) for building and automating business processes
- Strong understanding of how to structure workflows and improve operational efficiency
- Ability to work at the intersection of business and technology - translating needs into solutions
- Experience owning end-to-end implementations, not just supporting existing systems
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with stakeholders
- Comfortable in a hands-on, build-focused role with a high level of ownership
Nice to Have
- Experience consolidating tools into a single platform (preferably Microsoft 365)
- Exposure to AI/Copilot integration within Microsoft tools
- Background in business systems, operations, or process improvement
- Experience in a small to mid-sized organization where adaptability is key
Work Environment
This is a 6 month contract to hire opportunity!
- Onsite, 5 days/week
- Collaborative, high-accountability team environment
- Business professional dress code
