Business Intelligence Analyst

The Business Intelligence Analyst supports core business operations through design, development and implementation of data driven solutions utilizing Visual Studio, SQL Reporting Services, Power BI, Excel, and other accessible business intelligence tools.  This position consults with leadership and staff to deliver functional and innovative capabilities to benchmark and improve existing processes.  Under the general direction of the Director, Business Intelligence will integrate output from internal organizational systems, external line of business systems, and external industry sources to provide insight for data driven decisions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Designs develops and maintains high quality visual and analytical reports using tools such as SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau, Looker, IBM Cognos, SAP Business Objects, MicroStrategy, and other relevant tools.
2. Collaborates with stakeholders to promote analytical application including identifying trends, projections, anomalies, etc.
3. Serves as a resource for ad-hoc data requests.
4. Works closely with leadership, Data Scientist and the Director, Business Intelligence to prioritize data, analysis and reporting needs.
5. Maintains documentation related to work product to include such items as data dictionaries and change logs.
6. Maintains proficiency in database programming and serves as primary support and developer for operational resources.
7. Designs, creates, and maintains database structures, tables, and relationships
8. Works with leaders and vendors to manage software updates and assists in defining the division of developmental duties and responsibilities with vendors.
9. Facilitates discussions on data needs, data quality, and data interpretation with internal and external groups.
10. Shows proficiency in SQL Server, DAX, Microsoft Visual Studio, ETL theory and practice and data security concepts for both on-premises and cloud environments
11. Investigates and recommends tools for data manipulation and analysis which support the MTN mission.
12. Supports update and configuration changes as needed for maintenance, installation and design.
13. Drives automation and data quality control through investigation and solution deployment.
14. Maintains understanding of organizational processes to anticipate data collection requirements as well as current and future analytical needs
15. Maintains a focus on interdepartmental communication and service with an understanding of primary functions within each department focusing on department-specific data utilization.
16. Gathers and preprocess large datasets from multiple sources, ensuring data quality, consistency, and applying necessary cleaning and transformations to prepare data for analysis.
17. Performs exploratory data analysis to understand data patterns and relationships and visualizes data to identify trends and anomalies.
18. Analyzes historical data to identify trends, patterns, and relationships, and uses data mining techniques to uncover insights that can inform business decisions.
19. Creates reports and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders and presents complex data and insights in a clear and understandable manner.
20. Works closely with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, business analysts, and IT professionals, and collaborates with stakeholders to understand business needs and translates them into analytical solutions.
21. Identifies potential risks and opportunities based on analysis and develops strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, health sciences, business and one or more years of computer science/programming experience required.
2. Experience with Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud for data storage and analytics preferred
3. Excellent analytical and organizational skills required.
4. Possess strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to monitor work for accuracy and thoroughness while demonstrating perseverance, change agility, and a relentless drive to find answers despite setbacks.
5. Solid understanding of data privacy, compliance, and ethical considerations in data handling.
6. Demonstrated commitment to understanding and anticipating client needs by engaging in an iterative discovery process to ensure effective serve delivery.
7. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning with a growth mindset.
8. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and critical thinking skills.
9. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.  Must have reliable automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.  Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air. 
10. Ability to lift 15 pounds and transfer short distances.
11. Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and office equipment.
12. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
13. OSHA Category III – No exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.
14. Home internet and wireless phone access is required.
