Summary

Reporting to the Production Manager or Designee, the Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership in the assigned Department(s) and associated operations, including but not limited to training and cross-training of employees and assigning work based upon collaborative consultation with other departments such as Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Control. In addition, the Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for the operation of assigned equipment, to produce a large variety of product in accordance with customer requirements and specifications. Issues direction of the same to staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  1. Provides leadership and management to assigned departments and associated operations, including customer order fulfillment. 
  2. Provides direction and planning on practices such as Change Management, 5S, Kanban, VSM, Lean Manufacturing principles, etc. to achieve department objectives set by Production Manager.
  3. Establishes priorities in conjunction with the Production Control Department, monitoring progress, reporting results of the processing flow. Sets department overtime schedule as needed.
  4. Determine optimal training requirements per work center to achieve schedule; works with department Lead to coordinate training plans. Advises on budgeted headcount levels as needed.
  5. Cultivates staff by assisting with recruiting, interviewing, orienting, and training employees, establish personal development plans with new and existing Shareholders.
  6. Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  7. Evaluates new equipment and techniques.
  8. Creates and revises systems and procedures for suggesting and implementing change.
  9. Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures, and drives engagement through continued training, monthly safety audits, injury/observation documentation and corrective actions, and is a contributing member of the Safety Committee.
  10. Resolves personnel problems by collaboration with appropriate parties. May participate in the investigation of issues, identification of solutions, and recommendation(s) of action. 
  11. Approves/Denies time-off requests for department; conducts write-ups for attendance, performance, conduct, etc. per Wagner standards.
  12. Conducts shareholder performance evaluations, makes recommendations for promotions and/or performance improvement plans.
  13. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, and benchmarking state-of-the-art practices
  14. Other functions as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Minimum of a high school education and eight or more years of manufacturing experience including the completion of equivalent training and/or on-the-job experience.
  2. Required to read and write English, follow verbal instructions and use shop math (i.e. algebra, trig and geometry).
  3. A minimum of five years or more of leadership experience.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Ability to read blueprints, shop load reports, and to follow and provide detailed instructions.
  2. Ability to use precise measuring devices incidental to operations such as ruler, calipers, micrometers, and square and fixed gauges.
  3. Ability to work independently and prioritize work for self and others. 
  4. Thorough understanding of machine capabilities and applications within one’s charge.
  5. Ability to navigate with EPICOR scheduling system or applicable software systems associated with the operations processes.
  6. Capable to read work instructions and operating guidelines and provide instructions of the same to staff resources.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to bend, stoop, climb ladders, balance and move about the facility. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The Team Leader must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
